It all started when co-founder, Jessica Swaffer, discovered Francis Bacon had made rugs in the late 1920’s. She instantly fell in love. Jessica began searching for a manufacturer to get a reproduction made for her home when a friend suggested designing her own. At the time her daughter was six months old and she had decided, just the week before, to leave her previous career behind, and creating rugs seemed like the most perfect job that she could imagine.

Jess began learning about every modernist rug designer she could find to attempt to emulate that period without just making poor imitations. A month later she had the first series designed. Jess asked her good friend Michael Driver to run the business side, which turned into the perfect partnership, having already worked together for 5 years previously.

Zouzou Rugs are designed in Australia by Jessica Swaffer, managed in France by Michael Driver, and produced by hand in India.
